Happy Monday, y’all. It’s 9 am and a balmy 60 degrees outside. Not a bit of humidity to be found. The kids are fighting playing in the background.
Since it appears Summer has made its Official Exit for the year, I thought it was only fitting that I share some pictures with you that we took on our last (and only) outing to the beach this year.
*Note – I’m a Pacific Northwest girl. I grew up around the ocean. However, nothing I ever saw in the Puget Sound or Olympic Peninsula could have prepared me for an Atlantic beach in Connecticut. I’ve seen the Atlantic in warmer states, but I never thought New England could have such pleasant beaches!
This beach is within an hour’s drive from our house, in Westport, CT. It’s a state park. There is a $10 per-car fee which grants you access to two beaches (one sandy, one rocky), and large grassy areas where you can play volleyball, host a BBQ or just lounge around. We chose to hang out in the sandy beach with the kids.
The beach was pebbly, the tide was out. About fifteen feet into the water, the water was still hip-high and the pebbles disappeared. It was sandy and lovely!
(I was kneeling down to keep a better hold on BBJ as she stood on the bottom. She had a tendency to float away and tip over.)
I could see people standing up to 40 yards out that still only had water up to their ribs.
Siu Jeun hung out, very happily!, on a blanket on the beach. Lo Gung and I took turns playing with him. I think Lo Gung and I were both happy with the division of labor that day – Lo Gung is kind of enjoys just hanging out in the sun and jumping in the water when he gets too hot. I really prefer to hang out in the water and jump out when I get too cold. It’s been a looooong time since I had the opportunity to just bob around in the salt water. Heaven!!
