Nothing cute about that title, eh? No sense in beating around the bush. My little one went and got bigger today. After all the pencils were sharpened, and the crayons were bought. After the backpack was brought out and the snack was packed. After the perfect outfit was chosen and the shoes were tied.
Ming Wai started Kindergarten.
I wasn’t as emotional as I thought I’d be…but neither was she! No tears were shed on either side, which was a big surprise to this mama. We went into the day with a trick up my sleeve, though. A woman moved to our congregation last weekend, and a few days ago I realized that her son would be sitting right next to Ming Wai’s desk in the classroom. Jana and I decided to have our kids meet up at a park between our houses for a picnic lunch before school, and then walk in together. I think easing into the day like that really paid off!
We took the traditional first day of school pictures…in front of a door. Anyone know why every Kindergartener EVER has been photographed in front of their front door??
She was lost in thought, for a moment…ruminating on this momentous occasion. (Or, more likely, wondering if we were ever going to actually LEAVE the house!)
Oh, right! KINDERGARTEN. Happy, smiles, rainbows and unicorn giggles. Life’s ok.
That’s my girl.
Siu Jeun. I just had a snap a picture of him (or two). While I was trying to get Ming Wai to hold the sign at the right height, smile, keep her shoulders down and JUST GIMME THE STINKIN’ SHOT!!…he was trying to get ready to go to the park. Because, in Seattle in the fall, you just can’t head out at 11 am on a September morning without sunglasses…and a sweatshirt. (Sad fact, y’all, but true. And the coat and shades were totally his idea. He’s responsible like that.)
Yay for kindergarten! And, yeah…we have a lot of coat-and-shades photos around here. 😀
Haha. Hooray for fall!
